The world knows Odisha and India for their abundant natural resources found across every corner of the state and country. India is a major source of raw materials for various industries worldwide and its mineral resources are crucial to global industrial development.
However, due to the vested interests of some ministers and government officials, along with weak regulations and poor control over exports, our natural resources and raw materials are being exported to international markets at very low margins.
Because of this, instead of developing our own industries and creating value within the country, we continue to export our resources as raw materials. Even resource-rich regions like Odisha are not receiving the necessary focus for industrial development and value addition.
When we purchase foreign-made products, a significant portion of our hard-earned money goes to international companies. The expenses do not stop with the initial purchase; in many cases, we have to pay additional amounts repeatedly in the form of insurance, maintenance, spare parts, subscriptions and after sales services just to continue using the same product. In this way, we keep transferring our money from India to international companies, often converting our comparatively weaker currency into stronger foreign currencies.
But our purpose goes beyond products.
